Carla Ryder is getting more serious with her songwriting. Her new material shows impressive depth and flashes a stunning poignancy at times (witness new song Yellow Curtains). I cant wait to hear more of what she comes up with."
-- Steve Morse, former staff music critic at the Boston Globe for 28 years who now teaches the online Rock History course for Berklee College of Music
By press and by fans, Carla Ryder has been described as sounding like: A little British Invasion, a touch of garage crooner, lots of pop, folk and hook, with a bit of front porch thrown in for good measure.
Carla Ryder is a wife, mother, and inner-city public school teacher; yet still manages to maintain her role as accomplished front-woman, singer, and songwriter. With a total of 6 albums and 3 different bands under her belt, she has toured extensively and developed a loyal and enthusiastic following from New England to the Pacific Northwest. A true storyteller, she writes from the heart and from the gut a lyrical portrait of the human condition. Whether confessional, self-mocking or anecdotal she passionately blends her experiences with those of others and the world around her. Her sound has been described as rootsy and raw, soulful and soaring. Carla has crafted a style that is tender, heart warming, uplifting and redemptive. Her charm, presence and humor exude a connection to the audience so deep that from the crowd, you feel that you know her personally.
MAGEN TRACY and THE MISSED CONNECTIONS
A singer-songwriter with pinup swagger.
Its like if Tori Amos and Lucinda Williams made out.
Magen Tracy & the Missed Connections combines soulful vocals, poignant songwriting, and piano-driven pop-rock with a dash of sleazy swagger and alt-country twang. A veteran of the New England singer-songwriter circuit and a busy sideplayer in the Boston rock scene (St. Helena, Parlour Bells, Nate Leavitt Band, and others), Tracy first brought her bittersweet ballads and fierce anthems center stage in 2015 with the release of her first solo EP, Fiercely, produced by Nate Leavitt and featuring a host of familiar faces in Boston music (Leavitt, Dan Nicklin, Ned Gallagher, Sam Spencer, Stud Green, Kelly Davis).
2016s follow-up single, Harder Girl and the forthcoming EP is produced by Craig Small (Airport, Waltham), and features the full-time band, Magen Tracy & the Missed Connections, comprised of Tracy, Small, Green, Spencer, and Tamora Gooding. Where the name Missed Connections used to refer to the fact that each show featured a new set of musicianspeople Tracy had either played with on other projects, or had always wanted toits now a fully-realized lineup (with occasional guest stars).
LONELY LEESA AND THE LOST COWBOYS
Have you ever wondered what a band drawing heavily from "Rumors"-era Fleetwood Mac, Lucinda Williams, Big Star, and even some "Exile on Main Street"-era Rolling Stones might sound like? Even if you haven't, you have to admit that this a potentially amazing mix, yes?
