Anti-bias Ambassadors Program
The Town of Islip (Suffolk County, NY) sponsors an Anti-bias Ambassadors Program for youth within the town which includes approximately ten school districts, including Sayville. Each year, a new group of students attends four leadership conferences where they hear speakers from various groups share their personal experiences of bias and discrimination. Students in attendance are then encouraged to bring that information back to their schools to raise awareness among their peers. As our final project this year we held a story slam featuring six students who shared on the topic of overcoming differences. We are excited to bring these stories to the NYC stage as part of the SURU Festival.

Presented as part of the 2018 Speak Up, Rise Up Storytelling Festival.
