Tumble's Back-To-School Science Splash Jam
Tumble's Back-To-School Science Splash Jam is an ocean-themed afternoon of science fun and music! Its the perfect way to slide into the new school year.
Often referred to as Radiolab for kids, Tumble is a pioneering science podcast exploring stories of science discovery. Hosted by Lindsay Patterson and Marshall Escamilla, a wife-and-husband team of science journalist and teacher, Tumble weaves scientists lives and research into entertaining, engaging, and relatable stories of the scientific process, with the ultimate goal of improving science literacy.
Launched in 2015, Tumble has led the way in pioneering a new medium for children. A loyal and growing listenership of over 40,000 subscribers has fueled enthusiasm for its three seasons. Tumble was named one of the best podcasts for kids by Apple Podcasts in 2016, topped over 1.5 million downloads in 2017, and in 2018, it was picked up for distribution by PRX, the company behind the Radiotopia podcast network. Now, Tumble is going live.
Lindsay and Marshall will be presenting The Surprising Story of Sea Stars Sticky Feet. The episode was inspired by a question from a listener, who asked, How do sea stars grip onto rocks? The answer leads to a discovery that turned 200 years of accepted science on its head. With help from a leading sea star scientist, interactive games, and original music, Lindsay and Marshall tell a story of how simple questions and experiments can challenge what we think we know to be true.
Juli Berwald, bestselling author of Spineless: The Science of Jellyfish and the Art of Growing a Backbone, will be sharing jellyfish limericks and her own incredible journey to find giant jellyfish in Japan.
Saul Paul and Elizabeth McQueen round out the roster with empowering and educational musical performances.
Tickets are $9, with lap children free. Show Date: August 19th, 4 pm
