Sexy Widows
Filled with humor, passion, and heart, the story follows two widows and two widowers who join a support group, seeking solace after the death of their spouses. At first, the life-altering event leaves them emotionally drained, isolated, dealing alone with an onslaught of memories. But as they reflect on the terrain of their lives, including the rough legs of their journey, they come to terms with the present. The more they share their visions for the future, the easier it becomes to reach out for new relationships and create new possibilities.

PRINCIPALS

FEAR/FEARLESS, not age, gender, or race-specific, but a woman is preferred so she can play other female cameo roles. Alto. Invisible to them, but occurring on call as an inner voice, helping them confront their uncertainties and make choices.

CHARLEY, tenor or tenor baritone, 50 to late 50's, is the lovable comic character, but never a buffoon. Single until the second half of his life, he finally meets a soul mate--
and then loses her. Charley wants a new relationship. He is ardent, sincere, loyal.  Physically, Charley is "not in shape" and refers to "hair treatments."

DELLA, alto or mezzo, late 50s to late 60s, who is trying to establish her own identity as a widow after a long marriage to a controlling husband.  She's smart, philosophical, funny, warm, and endearing.  She is older than the character John.

JOHN, baritone or lyric baritone, late 50s to early 60s,
took early retirement as an airline pilot after his wife's death. During the marriage, he was a philanderer and an inattentive father.  Now he is wracked with a mixture of remorse, guilt, and loneliness. He reaches out and connects with his 17-year-old grandson.

BRENDA, mezzo or high alto, is the younger widow, late 40s to mid-50s. She's a firecracker--sassy, sensual, and playful, but also needy. Brenda had a happy marriage and would like to create an intimate relationship.  She is more outgoing than Della.
