ISUS X International Conference
The Tenth Conference of the International Society for Utilitarian Studies will be held on 11-14 September 2008, at the University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley, California, U.S.A.). Please visit the conference web site [give link] for full meeting details.
The International Society for Utilitarian Studies ISUS provides a forum for scholarly debate and research on utilitarianism and its historical development, and on its present-day relevance in such fields as ethics, politics, economics, psychology, law and jurisprudence, and public policy. ISUS also publishes the journal Utilitas, a leading interdisciplinary review presenting original research in all aspects of utilitarian theory.
ISUS X is locally sponsored by Berkeley Law (the School of Law of the University of California, Berkeley) and by its Kadish Center for Morality, Law and Public Affairs. The Kadish Center supports conferences, seminars and workshops through the academic year, designed to promote research and reflection on moral philosophical issues in law and public life.
Faculty, graduate students and independent scholars from over fifteen nations will gather in Berkeley for this stimulating interdisciplinary event. The conference features distinguished plenary lectures and well over 125 research presentations covering virtually all aspects of utilitarian moral and political theory and the history of utilitarianism.
Registration Notes
Those presenting papers at ISUS X need to complete the online registration by July 10 in order to insure their place on the conference program.
The registration site prompts you to buy tickets for the ISUS event. Buying a ticket is the equivalent of registering for the conference (as is required) and for attending the conference dinner (as we hope you will choose to do).
You are welcome to bring a guest to the conference dinner on September 12. Dinner reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. There is an August 15 deadline for all dinner reservations.
Registration Fees increase after August 5, 2008. The differentiated scale of Registration Fees is explained below:
