Join Chubritza, Good Company, Crested Hens, and Compost Mountain Boys for an intimate evening of music in Dell'Arte's Carlo Theater. Box office opens at 5pm and doors open at 5:30pm. Show starts at 6pm. $12, $10 for Humboldt Folklife Members, children 12 and under are $5.
Chubritza
Chubritza offers a vibrant and eclectic mix of international vocal and instrumental folk music
performed on a wide variety of traditional and modern instruments. The band plays frequently for dances, concerts, weddings, and arts events in the Humboldt area, as well as folk dance festivals in Central California, Oregon, and a concert tour in Israel. Chubritza is the name of a Bulgarian table spice usually served as a mixture of savory, salt and paprika. The name reflects the bands variety and mixture of international musical tastes and textures, while retaining a Balkan and Eastern European emphasis. Chubritza performs traditional dance music and songs from both urban and village traditions from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Macedonia, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, U.S.A. and Jewish/Klezmer and Romani (Gypsy) peoples. These songs reflect many universal themes which all people share: the passion of being in love, the sorrow of lost love, and the happiness music and dance brings to the heart.
Good Company
Good Company is Humboldt Countys premier acoustic trio specializing in Celtic and British acoustic trad folk, with detours into Old Time, French and Scandinavian music. Good Company has been bringing together the fine vocal and instrumental musicianship of Sam McNeill (violin, guitar, cittern, accordion, nyckelharpa), Bob Stockwell (mandolin, violin, guitar) and Janet Finney (flutes & whistles, small percussion) for 26 years.
Sam McNeill is one of the founders of the Humboldt Folklife Festival. He was in the original ad hoc music and dance troupe that toured all over Humboldt County on Saint Patricks day of 1979 to raise funds for the first Folklife Festival. Thank you Sam!
Crested Hens
Crested Hens are crafty world musicians bringing out the full flavors and rich traditional melodies of Celtic music, and are presently from in and around Arcata. They have played together as a trio for about a year and are known for their exhilarating tunes and rousing songs from Ireland and other Celtic lands as well as for their original music.
The Compost Mountain Boys
The Compost Mountain Boys been performing traditional bluegrass music in Humboldt County since 1991. Over the years you could say they've "composted" their music into the unique, exciting and above else entertaining music that it is today. True to it's form, the "compost" sound, has continually adapted with the various members, having always produced a truly solid bluegrass experience.
