Telemann Tafelmusik, Brandenburg 3
Albany Consort presents selections from Telemanns Tafelmusik (Banquet music) No 2 and Bachs Third Brandenburg Concerto. Tafelmusik was one of Telemanns most important productions, a lavish and expensive score privately circulated to 200 patrons including Handel and Quantz. Handel in his later compositions quoted this music, which delighted Telemann, who considered this very flattering. The Brandenburg Concerto leaves us with some puzzles, notably that the second movement is rather incomplete. We complete it with a movement from a cantata. I have also added wind parts to the outer movements making an already rich piece even richer. Bach himself suggests this possibility in another cantata, and I just ran with the idea.
