CANCELLED DIY Showgirl Series with The Shanghai Pearl
THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED
A 4 week series exploring several facets of Burlesque Costuming! Take individual classes for $45, or the whole series for $125 if registered by March 20th, $140 if registered after.
All classes are on Wednesday evenings, from 6-8pm, at the West Hall.
April 3rd: Sparkle and Shake! : A Burlesque Costuming Primary and Fringe Benefits Learn how to get that sparkle and shine on stage! Class covers rhinestoning techniques and the wide range of sparkle options. Learn how to make your own fringed shimmy set. Materials list emailed after registration.
April 10th: Pretty Pastie Primary School Students will learn how to make and apply pasties. Students will come away from the day with your own pair of sparkling custom pasties.
April 17th: Headdresses, Fascinators, and YOU! Learn about the different types of feathers used in headdresses, how to curl and shape them, as well as the basic building blocks of creating your own fabulous hairpiece, headdress or dazzling hair ornament!
April 24th: Naked City! Be more naked! Learn how to make your own g-string from scratch! Learn valuable tips on how to make and wear a merkin!
- Materials list emailed after registration. Materials will be available for purchase at class (There will also be a flat materials fee packages for anyone that needs it, this info is emailed along with the materials list). - All classes are a mix of lecture, discussion, and valuable hands on practice.We make something in every class. - Students are encouraged to bring current projects for Q&A and guidance.
About the Shanghai Pearl: The Shanghai Pearl is The Tantalizing Temptress from Taipei, Tempestuous Temple of Temptation, and Princess of Pulchritude!
An internationally renowned burlesque performer and instructor based out of Seattle, Washington, the Shanghai Pearl is celebrated for her extravagant costumes, bawdy humor, sizzling strip-tease, high glamour, and pulchritudinous performances.
Currently a sought after soloist, she is a featured guest of the illustrious Teatro Zinzanni Seattle and Teatro Zinzanni San Francisco. She has also been featured with the award winning Heavenly Spies, Can Can Castaways, and Glam-O-Rama Girlie show. The Shanghai Pearl is thrilled to combine her love for live music and burlesque as a member of The Blue Velvet Burlesque Revue. She is proud to maintain a positive presence at The Moisture Festival, Burlesque Hall of Fame, Great Boston Burlesque Expo, Seattle Erotic Arts Festival, and the world's first burlesque convention, TEASE-O-RAMA.
Miss Pearl also travels widely to perform and teach. She performed for New Orleans Burlesque Festival in 2010 and The New York Burlesque Festival in 2011, and has headlined as close to home as Portland, Oregon, and as far away as Paris, France.
In addition to her solo performance career, she has produced a variety of successful shows and events. She is a lead instructor with Miss Indigo Blue's Academy of Burlesque and creator of the popular DIY Showgirl series.
The Shanghai Pearl can be seen in Deidre Timmons' documentary "A Wink and A Smile" and is thrilled to bits to be the current face of the Seattle International Film Festival.
