The Hunt

What is The Hunt?

We're looking for Vancouver's best bartenders & chefs to enter this fierce competition. The Hunt challenges teams or individuals to scour the city for secret ingredients, smuggle them home, and then create a unique dish or cocktail. Winners will be awarded an optional privileged spot at The Black Market and other prizes listed below. The competition begins on March 20, 2013, but you can sign up anytime up until the Apr 5th deadline.

Contest Details:

All participants have to create a unique food or beverage to be featured at the Black Market (May 10-12). A list of 3 secret ingredients will be sent to all competitors on March 20th. The $15 application fee gets you entrance to the Black Market and the Hunt. All application fees are donated to Growing Chefs - a local charity that teaches kids about urban agriculture and healthy food.

April 5th Deadline (Midnight) - Video Round

Contestants compete for a spot in the show by submitting a short (under 5 min) HD video of their team on the hunt for ingredients, and the transformation of the ingredients into a prize-worthy food or beverage. Videos must be posted on the Swallow Tail Facebook Page, and a link emailed to info@swallowtail.ca no later than midnight.

April 6th - Each video will be judged by a panel of food experts on the elements of Food Presentation (1-10), Culinary Innovation (1-10) and Team Personality (1-5). Marks will be determined by Facebook votes. The top 10 cocktail creations and top 10 chefs will move to the Tasting round.

April 7th - Tasting Round
The top contestants will proceed to the tasting round where a celebrity panel of Vancouver chefs and cocktail masters will sample the presented food or beverage and choose the winner, one food and one drink creation.

Our Judges...
Jay Jones of the Shangri-la and Lauren Mote of Kale & Nori will be judging the cocktails. Chef Andrea Carlson (formerly of Bishop's) and Follow me Foodie, Mijune Pak on food.

Prizes...
Winners will be awarded bragging rights and title of 'Master of the Hunt', as well as an optional vendor spot at The Black Market to introduce their product to attendees (Value $300). Plus 6 months of tickets to Swallow Tail Culinary Events ($600 value). And other secret prizes!

What is The Black Market?

The Black Market is an underground market held in a secret location on May 10-12. 30 cutting edge vendors will be chosen to share their exotic and innovative food & drink creations with you. Winners of The Hunt have the opportunity to showcase their winning dish or cocktail at the Black Market. Food secrets will be traded and the latest culinary discoveries will be tasted at the Black Market.
