Although Hollywood has trained us to think of Frankenstein as the name of the monster, in Mary Shelleys novel it is actually the name of the scientist-creator rather than of his creation-creature. On the other hand, since Shelleys point seems to be that it is the scientist-creator who is the real monster of the story, perhaps Hollywood hasnt gotten things entirely wrong.

Join us as we use the 200th anniversary of the publication of Shelleys groundbreaking Gothic novel as a convenient excuse to dissect the work that launched modern science fiction as a literary genre.
