Felonious (San Francisco, CA) Curren$y (hip hop Merchant)
Felonious uses rhythm and rhyme to flip religion, sexism, xenophobia, legal status, gender, and privilege inside out over a live beat. We use Shakespeares characters as containers, to anchor ourselves at the dawn of the 17th Century only to find eerie echoes of present day America. Sometimes it takes more than a pound of flesh. Curren$y is an all-female rap show based on The Merchant of Venice. Featuring rappers and actors performing with a live hip band, this 30-minute selection brings you inside the world of Venice City, a bustling metropolis filled with chaos and divisions. The city is changing. Class and religion divides us. Hate and fear fuels our ignorance. And money is what drives us all.
