Lepers by Robert G Barone
"A small group of women living on the fringes of society, wrapped in bandages and loneliness, deal with denial and acceptance of being the unwanted. They are the embodiment of all those who are alienated: the homeless, the poor, the diseased, the unpopular. This is the story of their struggle, persevering with the never ceasing ability to dream and to love." from Samuel French.

Lepers is a play in which we look at where we each belong- or perhaps more fittingly, where we don't- and the means by which we each evaluate the space we take up each day.

As the play is a one-act we've added a second unique act to each night's event:

Wednesday, May 9th: Student Preview & Talkback with Full Cast & Crew (student tickets available!)
Thursday, May 10th: Art Show & Live Music with Aksel Boss
Saturday, May 12th: Red Carpet Wrap Night

Cast & Crew (in alphabetical order):

Mariel Kathryn Hunter

Hunter founded Fort Heart Productions in April 2017 and we've been working on putting up shows every day since. She's usually found in a rehearsal studio somewhere working on our next project; from the award winning solo show "I Want To Come Home" which she wrote and performed at the Fundy Fringe Festival in her hometown to Two Rooms by Lee Blessing, Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, The Chair Series by John McGie and more in just the last year. Mariel is community minded and volunteers with The Cold Reading Series and on many an indie film set.

When not working on Fort Heart Productions you can find her producing shorts, cheering for the Red Sox or walking Kits Beach daydreaming about her hometown on the Atlantic.

"Lepers is about each and every one of us. You have a role in this play. Come and see it for yourself."

Samantha Ingram

Introducing Samantha Ingram. This prairie girl is originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver 2 years ago to pursue acting. She has attended multiple acting schools and is always attending classes to keep sharp. She has worked with many independent film crews and recently has co-founded a production company called Three Little Birds.

"This show is a shock to the system. It is a reminder of where we have been as a society and where we are now. It's also a chance to re-evaluate our individual part in where we are going. Come challenge yourself, open your heart and choose your future."

Cansu Ozkan

Cansu Ozkan is from Turkey and she is currently studying Acting for Film and Television at Vancouver Film School. She is excited to be performing in her first production with Fort Heart Productions.

"Its a great story about alienation. You get to see different stages of it thorough different perspectives. I think everyone has experienced it in some level and thats what makes this story so real."

Arshdeep Purba

Arsh Purba moved from Calgary, AB to Vancouver, BC to pursue her career in the film industry. She received her diploma in Acting for Film and Television from  Vancouver Film School. Arsh's passion for this industry is driven by her eagerness to work on stories that bring awareness, explore humanity and incorporate diversity.

"People should come see this show because everyone involved in this show, is a powerhouse. You pair up an amazing team, with a strong story, you create magic."

Kiomi Pyke

Kiomi began her acting career at 16 in her hometown of Edmonton where she started taking professional acting classes at Zocalo Film Studio. In 2014, she moved to Vancouver and enrolled in the Acting Essentials program at Vancouver Film School. In 2017, she signed with one of Canadas most reputable agencies, The Characters Talent Agency. Kiomi made her theatre debut last November in Young Jean Lees play The Shipment, playing several characters including Mama, Grandma and Thomisina. Catch her May 31st in After Party Theatres: Lady Parts - Vagina episode 4 of the series.

"This play really hits home for me when I look at how I have seen people I love be alienated or tossed aside because they didnt fit whatever mould was deemed acceptable by the majority at the time. That, combined with my own personal experience of being seen as different makes this play a story I feel is necessary to tell. I think the fact that the playwright was able to communicate such a loaded and complex topic in just one act is phenomenal."

"Robert G. Barone has created a small, isolated slice of a reality that, at first, seems so beyond reality, but is in fact closer to us than we are willing to admit. Lepers forces us to confront our compassion and humanity in a way that challenges our passiveness and apathy."
