AFP Luncheon, May 2018
Join us on Thursday, May 10 for a great luncheon and education session, "Data: How to Use It and How to Share It" presented by Eric Keller and Lauren Chivers.
This is an informative luncheon ideal for CFO's, Accountants, Data Managers, Development Officers, CEO's, and Executive Directors. Eric will kick off this talk on the common misconception that Big Data is only for organizations with large staffs. Eric will attempt to simplify a complicated message while helping you understand the different types of analytics or screenings, and how to use them to better deliver your mission. Lauren will then focus on the fact that many organizations are overflowing with data and struggle with summarizing key data. Lauren will share several key metrics as well as tips for effective data visualization. This will include a live demonstration for creating a simple high-level dashboard that can be used to share with boards and/or management within Microsoft Excel.
After spending the first few years out of college working at a marketing firm and battling the snow storms in Pittsburgh, PA, Eric realized that he could pick anywhere in the world to live, so he moved to Charleston, SC. Holding a BS in Marketing and in Computer Science while spending his free time volunteering at the local food banks, he searched for something that could fit his educational background but also fulfill his passion for philanthropy. In 2005, Eric joined Blackbaud, at their headquarters, and has been immersed in non-profit data and analytics ever since. His very first task was to export data from a clients database and append updated contact and wealth information. Now, he works with over 150 Account Executives at Blackbaud to teach them how to use some of the same types of data to improve fundraising effectiveness. When hes not building queries or dashboards, Eric is active in the community, where he plays recreational sports, drives a route for East Cooper Meals-on-Wheels with his family and volunteers with his teams at Low Country Foodbank, Habitat of Humanity, The First Tee and many other local non-profits.
Lauren joined the ETV Endowment and South Carolina Educational Communications in 2016. Prior to being named Financial Officer, Lauren spent her career at Milliken in various financial roles. Lauren is a member, and former board member, of the Institute of Management Accountants. She is a member of an organization benefiting neglected and abused children in Spartanburg County and she participates on the missions committee at her church. Lauren graduated from Clemson with a BS in Financial Management and holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from the University of South Carolina. Lauren and her husband have two children.
This luncheon has been approved for one (1) continuing education hour for the CFRE.
