The Trail of Tears: Andrew Jackson and the Cherokee Nation
Our guest speaker, Amanda Lee Savage, received her M.A. in History, from The College of William and Mary in 2011. Her fields of interest include Early American history, Native American history, and Pacific World. She is currently teaching History of Technology in America; US Diplomatic History; North American First Peoples; Introduction to Historical Methods; US History to 1877; US History after 1877 at the University of Memphis.
This lecture is accompanied by a 10-panel exhibition of Jacksons life and legacy, curated by the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Exhibit highlights include Jacksons dueling history, his early years in Tennessee, his relationships with Native peoples, and the Age of Jackson.
