About The Work:
Visible Structures, a dance trilogy, examines the age-old story of the hero's journey as a historical construction and pop-culture phenomenon. Drawing from research into heroic and emergent leader narrative films (like Ender's Game and The Matrix), personal experiences, and Joseph Campbell's book "Hero with a Thousand Faces," the work explores the story and its role in our culture.

Visible Structures aims to present the status quo of the story and to deconstruct the conceptual frameworks within it. Dynamic momentum-based phrasing propels dancers through narrative structures, power struggles, and oppressive systems. Shifting between choreographically predetermined outcomes and actual free-for-all competition, dancers struggle with each other and vie for attention from the audience.

Lighting and environmental design are integral to the piece and are extensions of Katherine Kiefer Stark's choreography for the work. Andy Thierauf is collaborating with Stark to weave together a sound score of movie soundtracks as well as creating original music.

About The Evening:
Mascher Space Cooperative will be transformed into two spaces: a performance space and a theater lobby. The performance is split into three Episodes, and there will be a brief intermission between each to enjoy beverages and snacks for sale.

This is an immersive performance experience. It is not possible to enter once we have started. If you have purchased a ticket, we will hold the house for a maximum of seven minutes.
