GEARS Pet Portrait Painting Fundraiser by The Social Pet Sitter
Are you a pet lover? Do you enjoy getting creative?

Then come join us and paint a portrait of your own pet!

This is a fundraiser event for the Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Societ (GEARS). A portion of each ticket sale will be donated directly to GEARS. I respect and highly regard the work that they do, and I want to spread awareness for their cause, as well as raise some money for them, so they can continue doing their amazing work!! Come show your support and leave with your very own masterpiece!

See the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1954484334593428/

Tickets are $50.00 each, with 18 seats available at the hall!

Cancellation - If you need to cancel, we require at least 3 days notice of the event, so we can open those spots to other people who might be waiting. We can honor a refund if the cancellation is made 3 days prior. If the cancellation is  within 72 hours of the event, we cannot issue refunds. Thank you for understanding!

What's included:

-All art materials (paint, canvas, palettes, paint brushes, water containers, paint rags, etc)
-Complementary beverages (juice, water) and some light snacks
-2.5 hours of instruction and support

What you need to bring:

-Clothes that you would be okay getting paint on (an apron, a painting shirt, etc)
-A picture of your pet  ***see below for suggestions on choosing a photo that will be best for painting***
-A positive outlook that's not too attached to the outcome :)
-A playful spirit!

You do NOT need to be an experienced artist to attend this paint night!

We will be focusing on capturing an expressive portrait of your pet. This means that it does not necessarily need to be photo-representational, but more of an expression that is unique to you and the spirit of your pet.

Check out the images attached in the event discussion to see the 'style' we are aiming for!

I will guide the group through steps that will help you achieve an expressive portrait. There is no right or wrong in this style; it's a style that gives the artist a license to be creative!

However, I will be available to offer tips and tricks if you would like them.

Suggestions for choosing a picture of your pet (please see discussion on the event for an example):

1. ONE PET Per Painting/Photo only please. Two animals per painting would take double the time, unfortunately. But we will have more paint events in the near future for your other fur babies!

2. Try to choose a picture of your pet from a three quarter view (slightly off center) or side view. Mostly just the portrait (from the shoulders up!) This usually helps beginner painters, and you usually get to see a bit more of your pet's personality this way.

3. Try to make sure the photo isn't fuzzy, and the lighting is even enough so you can see most of your pet's features. Some shadows can be exciting, but can sometimes be difficult to figure out in paint.

4. Try to make sure the photo is mostly of your pet only. Other things in the picture can be distracting and you may not really be able to see as many details of your pet as you would like. Make sure your pet takes up most of the printed page, not just a few milimetres in the middle of the photo! We need to be able to see details!

5. If possible, print your picture larger than a regular photo (5x8' or larger) and in colour. This will help you to find the most success in your painting! Printing a photo is much better than using an Iphone or Ipad because it's too easy to spill paint water on your electronics. I've seen it happen. Also, the borders of your photo will not stay fixed, so it will mess with your painting. Printed Photos only please!

Please do NOT bring your pet to the hall. Pictures only, please :)

***IMPORTANT*** PLEASE share the photo you choose for the paint night with me BEFORE HAND, so that I can give a few pointers. You can either message me on facebook, or share your photo in the discussion of the event! The better your photo aligns with the above criteria, the more success you will find with your painting! :)

Come meet other passionate animal loving do-gooders, create your own masterpiece, and raise some money for a very worthy cause!!
