Take Your Knitting to the Next Level - Intermediate Knitting Workshop with Gretchen Funk
Everwood Farmstead Foundation is proud to present the Artist Workshop "Take Your Knitting to the Next Level - Intermediate Knitting" with Gretchen Funk on Saturday, September 8th from 10 am - 3 pm!
This workshop is perfect for knitters searching for inspiration for their next project. This class should be considered a next step after learning basic beginning knitting - participants should know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. If you're interested in knitting a certain garment, or creating a new kind of fabric, but are intimidated by the process and unsure of where to start, Gretchen will demystify all of those unknowns. The morning is a review of technical skill basics and knit repair with a discussion on technique. The afternoon will focus on reading knitting patterns and charts and choosing patterns for successful projects.
Gretchen learned to knit from her dad when she was young, and grew up surrounded by fiber art. She has been teaching knitting for over 10 years, and is currently an instructor at the Yarnery in St Paul. She loves talking about techniques, interpreting patterns, fixing knits, and empowering knitters. The price for the Workshop is $75 a person (which includes lunch and beverages).
Participants should bring:
* Comfortable clothes and sensible shoes based on the weather
* A project in progress or patterns you want to discuss
* A swatch that is:
- Made with light colored worsted weight yarn
- Cast on 30 stitches, row 1: knit across, row 2: purl across; repeat rows 1 and 2 to make stockinette stitch fabric for 14 rows
- Participant will use the swatch to try out the techniques that will be discussed
* Appropriate needles for your yarn - size 7us or 8us would be fine
