TWO AMERICAS: One-Act Plays About American Dreams
Outpost Repertory Theatre and LHUCA present TWO AMERICAS, a short program of one-act plays that explore the dark and joyful sides of the American Dream. This will be the first collaboration between this new theatre company, comprised of faculty, staff, and students of Texas Tech Universitys School of Theatre & Dance, and LHUCA.
Tom Topor's blistering BOUNDARY COUNTY, IDAHO introduces us to a charming and volatile white supremacist who shares his story with a reporter from the New York Times. This powerful one-man drama, written in 1997, is as timely and relevant twenty years later, presenting a complex and troubling snapshot of a man living on the margins of society. How does the past continue to shape us today and what can change?
Spanning almost 50 years, Dipika Guha's comedy A BRIEF HISTORY OF AMERICA follows Sarah's journey from becoming an awkward young girl to a cautious, middle-aged woman. Along the way, complicated misadventures with her first love Roberto and her overbearing stepmother Sadie test her ability to figure out what she really wants from her life. At times poetic, absurd, and deeply moving, A BRIEF HISTORY OF AMERICA smashes through the isolation of living in 21st century America to find the beauty of human connection.
