Disconnected
Studio 49's 13th annual spring recital touches on some topics that are important to today's society and to our younger generation. "Disconnected" is the story of Stacy, a teenage girl who has become so addicted to her device and social media that she has lost touch with who she is. Stacy is a highly creative, intelligent girl with a wild imagination that has been dulled by social media and her self worth is dependent upon how many "Likes" she receives. Each dance performed, is Stacy's imagination playing out a memory, or what is happening currently in her life, reminding her of her talents for creativity and the importance of human connection. Through her memories and with the help of her mother, teachers, friends and her magical imagination, she begins to realize that authentic, real human connection is more important and true than any digital relationship she may have. And that the number of "Likes" you have means nothing.
