Paquita and Other Works
Public ticket sales begin Monday, March 26, 10 am. Tickets will be available at the door once online sales have ended.
Join Centennial Youth Ballet for the final act of Paquita, a ballet set in Spain during the occupation of Napoleon's army. Our heroine, Paquita, was raised by gypsies but wins the love of a young French officer, Lucien, when she saves his life from the gypsy chief. She discovers through a medallion she has carried her entire life that she is of noble birth and can marry Lucien.
The mixed-bill concert also includes Pas de Quatre, a Romantic-era ballet that brought together on one stage Lucile Grahn, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cerrito, and Marie Taglioni, the four greatest ballerinas of the time, who performed with demure lightness, delicacy, and poise.
In addition, Centennial Youth Ballet presents an energetic piece featuring ballet and tap inspired by An American in Paris ballet performed to the George Gershwin score from the movie featuring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.
