#NOTMETOO! - How to Reduce Liability Exposure through a Harassment Free Workplace With the recent allegations of sexual harassment in the headlines regarding Harvey Weinstein and many other celebrities to follow, the movement has created increased awareness and the impact on an organization if anti-harassment is not reinforced and addressed properly. A study by the U.S. Department of Labor reported that 88 per cent of women construction workers experience sexual harassment at work, compared to 25 per cent of women in the general workforce. Employers have the responsibility to create an environment in which employees feel free to raise concerns and are confident that those concerns will be addressed. The employer can mitigate exposure and protect their reputation by properly handling and educating their workforce and taking proper action to prevent claims and maintain a harassment-free workplace. It is very apparent that if a company allows harassment to flourish in the workplace, they will pay a high price in poor employee morale, low productivity, high turnover, brand reputation and potential lawsuits. In this session, we will discuss: Prevalence in the Construction Industry Legal impacts on your business New ways to harass in the digital age Are you at risk? - Survey your culture Roles and responsibilities within your organization The importance of an updated policy, reporting and a sound investigation and complaint process The importance of awareness, enforcement and training to mitigate exposure
