FREE Earth Month Oyster Slurp April 20
Join us to celebrate an oyster harvest and Earth Month! Friday, April 20, 5:30 at Seabold Hall, 14450 Komedal Rd Ne, Bainbridge Island, WA. Wine will be served for a nominal fee.
Weed Warriors' Jeannette Franks and Betsy Peabody, Puget Sound Restoration Fund, will welcome you. There will be a few educational displays, as well as much thanks to supporters and minimal speechification. Come and mingle with other neighbors who value our islands ecological health and learn how shellfish play a role in the health of the Salish. These oysters will have been harvested that morning from Port Madison. We will have accompaniments, but not many, so feel free to bring your favorite.
Weed Warriors are a volunteer coalition of amateur and professional gardeners and environmental activists serving various organizations including but not limited to (in no particular order) IslandWood, Sustainable Bainbridge, BI Land Trust, City of Bainbridge Island, BI Parks Foundation, BI Parks & Rec, BI Watershed Council, Association of Bainbridge Communities, schools, service groups, and Kitsap Weed Board. Weed Warriors goal is to participate in at least one action and/or educational event a month focused on removal of noxious weeds and restoration of native plants. We are a 501(c)3.
Founded in 1997, Puget Sound Restoration Fund works collaboratively to restore marine habitat, water quality, and native species in Puget Sound through on-the-ground projects. We are committed to a vision of a clean and healthy Sound that is productive, full of life, and capable of sustaining us. The populations we rebuild to achieve that vision (oysters, abalone, kelp) are key to maintaining ecosystem health. The community shellfish farms we've launched are designed to spur clean water efforts and re-forge connections between people and resources.
