Surrealist Kitchen
Dear Stranger, we don't completely know who you are -- if you are lonely or timid, cheerful or extrovertert -- but whatever you may be, perhaps you are bored and wish to intrepidly throw yourself into the middle of a group of strangers and hope to hear, see and witness something that will distract you. Also, the feeling of curiosity and hearing something that would interest or distract you or the some restlessness can be an incentive, therefore we propose you join us on April 21st at 12:00 pm. Actually we want to bring you together for something spontaneous. We cannot make any promises, but we can tell you, we will make you food and you will more than likely meet someone that you will find interesting or a moment may raise a question in your mind that may change the course of the history of your life ...

Three actors bring to life the writings and paintings by Spanish Surrealist Painter Remedios Varo (1908-1963) and English born Mexican painter Leonora Carrington (1917-2011). After escaping a chaotic Europe these women found their artistic voices within the surreal landscape of Mexico City, on Gabino Barreda Street a street rich with artists collaborating and experimenting with form Remedios and Leonora formed a vital friendship, linked to a significant artistic movement of surrealism, a movement that was feminine and instinctive carved in a tiny corner of Mexico in the 1950s and 60s.

Bringing to life an unfinished play "Project for a Theatre Play" by Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington, letters and dreams, we begin to enter into the surreal worlds where nature peels out of walls and the cosmos invades buildings, where animals blend into human form and food and ritual are jostled where what we see is mingled with the ludicrous and with horror.

A performance set within a kitchen, we invite you to share a meal and share in the fantastic worlds of two vital painters.
