Operation SUNshine
Toronto, 2014. Jennifer McKinley stripped and rescued 179 women from the dank bathroom walls in the basement of her childhood home. The SUNshine Girls, models who posed for the Toronto SUN newspaper from 1988-1991, and their reverse news articles come to life through memory and physical characterizations. They provide the catalyst for true and fictional stories about the objectification of women, children in peril and gender-based violence. Operation SUNshine reveals a bygone era of Toronto as a child of the city navigates sites of danger in this dark comedy and coming-of-age story.
