Rice Lake Kiwanis Presents Laughs for Literacy with Charlie Berens

THE MISSION
Laughs for Literacy is an event created by the Rice Lake Kiwanis club to promote and raise funds for literacy and community development projects in Rice Lake and Barron County.

THE EVENT
The headliner for the Laughs for Literacy fundraiser is Wisconsin-native performer Charlie Berens. Berens, a comedian, Emmy-winning journalist, and social media sensation, is the host of the online "Manitowoc Minute" news video series. His show features the unique virtues and pitfalls of being a Wisconsinite, some off-the-wall news items from the Badger State and beyond, and the one-man's-trash-another-man's-treasure bounty of CraigsList.

THE CAUSES
Using startup funds and support from the Rice Lake Kiwanis, Lakeview Medical Center/Marshfield Clinic Rice Lake Center, Rice Lake Area School District, and several other local donors, Rice Lake is launching its Dolly Parton Imagination Library affiliate program. Imagination Library mails age-appropriate books to enrolled kids to provide them with access to reading materials and to encourage reading in the home.

The goal of this fundraising event is to promote the program in our local area as a "kick-off" and to provide a portion of the operational funds it needs to establish itself and grow. Funds will also be utilized for the Rice Lake Kiwanis' annual Headstart Program Book Giveaway and other community programs.
