About
An evening of storytelling about the effects of displacement and development from across the city featuring recent short films and first-hand accounts told by those directly affected and on the frontlines of support. Young filmmakers fighting to preserve their community. Neighborhoods shadowed by cranes. Obstacles to ownership. In an ever-shifting environment where upzoning is trending, what does it mean to feel a sense of place in the city?

Participants are invited to prepare a short story to share:
- A time you felt deeply connected to a place and its community.
- A situation where your community/home was threatened or you didnt feel like you had control over your possessions or home.
- An account of reclaiming your place after being displaced.
- A description of how your connection to your place and community have evolved over time due to changing circumstances.

Families at Firs Mobile Home Park in SeaTac have been organizing to save their homes and preserve their unique community ever since the landowner announced plans to close the park, evict all the homeowners, and develop hotels on the site. Three young filmmakers from the community made a short film to call attention to the challenges theyre facing. Donations from the event will go directly to the Firs Home Owners Association to support their work towards a nonprofit or community-ownership model for the park that promotes community control and self-determination, preserves affordable housing for all of SeaTac, and models a development without displacement where all communities benefit equitably from transit expansion and other investments in our communities.
