Assessing Digestion and Selecting Herbs
When applied correctly, herbs can have radical effects on digestion. Using a blend of chinese medicine and western herbalism, I will be presenting methods for assessing tongue and bodily symptoms to determine what type of digestive imbalance is present. We will be learning about some of the most common organ imbalances, their causes, and things that can rebalance.
Woven throughout will be the use of western herbs to rebalance digestion in an intentional and targeted way. We will cover herbs such as peach leaf, meadowsweet, Oregon grape, angelica, marshmallow root, shatavari root, rhubarb root, yellow dock root, triphala, gentian root, elecampane root, codonopsis and fennel.
This class is intended to provide tangible tools to use for your own digestive health, with friends and family, or in your clinical practice. I borrow from Traditional Western Herbalism, Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and my personal experiences and observations. We will not be discussing western diagnoses of digestive disorders, but rather taking things back to the basics of bodily tissues and their needs.
LEVEL: This class is appropriate for intermediate to advanced students. I recommend taking Intro to Herbalism with me at least, or having prior herbal studies before taking this class. Intro to Constitutions and Herbal Energetics is also a good class to take before this one.
