The Harmony of Morning, Sunday, April 29 at 3pm
The second concert in our 15th anniversary season, Melodia presents an all-American program. Hightlights include Elliott Carters early choral work for womens choir and chamber orchestra, "The Harmony of Morning," a setting of poem from Mark van Dorens Pulitzer prize-winning Collected Poems; Christina Whitten Thomas"Mornings with You" a Melodia commission; the U.S. premiere of Paul Halleys "A Brighter Garden;" and works by Sally Lamb McCune.
Piano interlude performed by Taisiya Pushkar featuring "Hermit Thrush at Eve," Op.92 No.1 by Amy Beach and "The Tides of Manaunaun" by Henry Cowell.
Conducted by Cynthia Powell, Artistic Director, with Taisiya Pushkar, piano, and all-female chamber orchestra.
