Molskys Mountain Drifters, with Babineau/Chartrand
Molskys Mountain Drifters Tradition steeped in possibility. Bruce Molsky, one of Americas premier fiddling talents (Mother Jones) and Grammy-nominated artist on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song is delighted to present his new group already on tour in the US. Also featuring, Allison de Groot on banjo, and Boston-based Stash Wyslouch who is one of bluegrasss great young genre-bending pioneers. What a trio this is. Saw them recently at Glasgow's Celtic Connections, and you will be amazed.
How amazing is it for us to also have this great duo to open Nicolas Babineau and Alexis Chartrand. They are two young Québécois musicians brought together by a common passion for traditional music. Their shared sensitivity for recordings of old fiddlers inspires their performances of traditional québécois repertoire. They sometimes play two fiddles, and sometimes allow the guitar to accompany the melodies, with their feet energizing the dance tunes. In May 2017, the duo released their first album, Gigues à deux faces, and have performed throughout Québec, across Canada, New-England, and Sweden.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
