Demystifying GAPs: An interactive workshop for NY fruit and vegetable growers on Good Agricultural Practices and building a food safety plan
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County
Middletown, NY
Share this event:

Are your wholesale customers demanding a food safety plan or GAP certification?  Are you concerned about how the FDA's new proposed Food Safety Rules will affect your farm?  Or would you like to expand your marketing opportunities and ensure that your customers are getting clean produce?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, please join us for this interactive full-day workshop.  Learn how to prepare your farm and get ahead of the curve by creating a food safety plan using FamilyFarmed.org's online tool, www.onfarmfoodsafety.org, now available in English and Spanish.

The best way to increase your farm's food safety is to establish practical post harvest handling systems for cleaning, cooling, packing, storage, sanitation and transportation.   The trainers will share how-to tips gleaned from their own farms, and from other experienced farmers.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
-How to identify food safety risks on your farm
-Straightforward post harvest handling practices
-How to create a customized food safety plan using FamilyFarmed.org's online tool, www.onfarmfoodsafety.org
-Food safety needs of wholesale buyers
-Implications of the FDA's proposed Produce Safety Rules

All participants will receive a FREE copy of FamilyFarmed.org's newly updated and revised Wholesale Success Manual (a $70 value), which includes more than 100 crop profiles and crop-specific information on harvesting, cooling, storing, and packing according to industry standards.  Additional crop insurance and risk management resources will also be provided.

Participants will also receive FREE 1-on-1 Spanish or English follow-up technical assistance in the weeks
following the workshop.

Not a New York fruit or vegetable farmer? Please contact (708)763-9920 or info@familyfarmed.org to purchase Wholesale Success manuals or for more information about our workshops.
