ABOUT CALI & CO's new work, PRACTICE:ADAPT
Amplifying that 'place matters', with explorations on home, identity, resistance and adapting, CALI & CO dance's new work PRACTICE:ADAPT, moves through everyday spaces (big and small), making palpable modes of survival, creativity and resistance. PRACTICE:ADAPT features 12 dancers occupying and transforming public spaces to connect with, protect and amplify the beauty and strength of our local communities with live music by Matt EL.
ABOUT CALI & CO's Practice-to-Performance Workshop:
The intensive weekend is primarily focused on building community by creating together. The performance is informal and low stress, but we go pretty deep in process to create what you will see proofread on Sunday. The themes that arise throughout the weekend are cultivated through conversation, improvisation, choreography and what is present for the specific group that is participating. We do a little 'asset mapping' along the way - 'what embodied wisdoms are you bringing into the space?' and how can we honor all voices/movers in the room. Then crafting it together quickly, taking the preciousness out and the embodiment into performance.
Christine Cali is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco based CALI & CO dance founded in 2001. Her performance and teaching career spans over two decades both nationally and abroad. She is Assistant Professor at Sonoma State University and faculty at ODC Dance. She holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University/American Dance Festival (06'), BFA from Ohio University (97'), she is certified in Pilates and co-directed projectLIMB in Brooklyn, NY (03'-06').
CALI & CO dance/Matt EL music is directed by long-time collaborators Christine Cali (dance) & Matt Langlois (music). Their work collides at the midsection of Contemporary Dance and Modern Rock Concert, while transcending conventions of artistic form and social constructs. The human spirit is celebrated in their work for all of its temporality, while physicality and consciousness are pushed toward the center, edges and beyond.
