Devising Theatre - A 3-Day Sojourn Theatre Institute
DEVISING THEATRE- A 3-Day Sojourn Theatre Institute
DETAILS: 9AM-4:30PM June 18-20, 2018
LOCATION: The Alice B. Rapoport Center for Education & Engagement, Goodman Theatre, Chicago

Sojourn Theatre has been devising original work for almost twenty years. Documentary theatre about public education on the floor of a state legislature (Witness Our Schools); a site-specific adaptation of Brecht in a working Subaru dealership (Good); an interactive urban planning performance tackling gentrification at an international Arts Festival (BUILT); an immersive journey that brought urban and rural audiences across 50 miles to share a meal, conversation and a multi-generational tale of love and loss (On The Table); a participatory civic theatre event that engages strangers in the act of deciding how to spend real dollars on poverty reduction in their own community (How To End Poverty in 30 Minutes). We create gatherings that act like shows, processes that move like art, engagement that listens like relationship, and workshops that feel like discovery. Join Sojourn Theatre artistic director Michael Rohd alongside Sojourn ensemble members for three days of play, ideas, strategies and dialogue. Including explorations of movement and improvisation, facilitation and dramaturgy, generative activity and group practice, we will explore how to make work collaboratively that starts, grows, iterates and becomes.

Sojourn and CPCP work to support and increase the capacity of artists and community organizations to imagine and collaborate towards racially equitable and economically just communities. People of color and people from traditionally underrepresented populations and communities are especially encouraged to apply.

The Sojourn Theatre Summer Institute is hosted by The Alice B. Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement at Goodman Theatre as part of a multi year CPCP & Goodman Theatre partnership.
