March 17: Ethan Foote & Ensemble
It's a great thrill to welcome Ethan Foote and Rochelle Rice back, this time in an ensemble with Donald Wolcott and Lucas Ashby. As usual, doors open at 6:30 for a vegetarian feast (a gift from your host), and music starts at 7:30.  The Casa is a private home: leave your shoes at the door but you're welcome to BYOB inside. Tickets are $25, and will sell out. 100% of sales goes to the artists. Please text 202 270-5048 if you'd like to help cook or clean up.

Details on each of the artists:
Ethan Foote brings extraordinary gifts and thought to music.  He is a composer seeking new meaning for music in the 21st century, whose work has fallen within jazz, classical, and folk idioms, both apart from and in dialogue with one another. He also writes and performs in the context of theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary art. Though he is primarily a double bassist and bass guitarist, Ethan also plays acoustic and electric six-string and 12-string guitars, and hes never quite let go of his first instrument, the cello.

While an Artist-In-Residence at Strathmore in Bethesda in 2017, Ethan premiered new works including the quintet Revanche Grotesque, a string quartet, and the four-movement chamber-jazz work Suite for Septet. Ethan released his solo album Fields Burning in 2015, and since 2013 has worked with singer-songwriter Marian McLaughlin, performing his arrangements in several noteworthy contexts, including an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in 2014.

Rochelle Rice's stunning voice is a tapestry of jazz-centric contemporary pop and soul. Rochelle released her debut album WONDER to a standing room-only crowd at AMP by Strathmore. The album features beautiful original music, a sizzling quartet, and lush strings.

As a consistent voice on the new music scene, Rochelle has performed at top
venues including The Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Strathmore Mansion, Dimitrious Jazz Alley, and with renowned and Grammy-Award winning artists such as Sweet
Honey In The Rock and Melissa Etheridge. Dedicated to social justice and music education, Rochelle has performed at protest rallies, marches and recently sang in honor of the work of
Congressman John Lewis. See and hear Rochelle at www.rochellericemusic.com

Donald Wolcott is a cherished pianist in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, playing at .notable venues such as The Kennedy Center, D.A.R. Constitution Hall, Blues Alley, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and The Library of Congress and has given performances throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Lucas Ashby is a nationally-touring musician performing with acts from around the globe, from Afrobeat-funk outfit Big Mean Sound Machine, to collaborations with Ghanaian artists Yao Foli "Cha Cha" Augustine and akan harp master Osei Korankye, to projects centered around the Lusophone diaspora with Cape Verdean/Senegalese vocalist-instrumentalist Jean-Francis Varre and internationally-acclaimed Brazilian vocalists Kenia, Cissa Paz, and Rose Moraes. In addition, Lucas performs regularly in groups specializing in 21st-century avant-garde chamber music.
