An Evening with Poets Anis Mojgani, Nikkita Oliver, Karen Finneyfrock & Ebo Barton Presented in partnership with The Creative Residency at Bloedel Reserve

Join us for an evening of poetry with four outstanding and inspiring artistic voices.
Anis Mojgani
Poet and artist Anis Mojgani is a two time National Poetry Slam Champion, winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam, and TEDx speaker. His work has appeared on HBO, NPR, and in such journals as Bat City Review, Rattle, Thrush, Muzzle, and Forklift Ohio. Anis has been awarded residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, AIR Serenbe, The Bloedel Reserve, and the Oregon WITS Program. The author of five books, Anis latest collection, In the Pockets of Small Gods, comes out April of 2018 from Write Bloody Publishing. Originally from New Orleans, Anis currently lives in Portland, OR, where he serves on the Board of Directors for Literary Arts, and balances his time between writing, drawing, and being on the road. Karen Finneyfrock
Karen Finneyfrock is a poet and novelist in Seattle, WA. She is the author of two young adult novels: The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door and Starbird Murphy and the World Outside, both published by Viking Childrens Books. She is one of the editors of the anthology Courage: Daring Poems for Gutsy Girls and the author of Ceremony for the Choking Ghost, both released on Write Bloody press. She is a former Writer-in-Residence at Richard Hugo House in Seattle and teaches for Seattle Arts and Lectures Writers-in-the-Schools program. In 2010, Karen traveled to Nepal as a Cultural Envoy through the US Department of State to perform and teach poetry and in 2011, she did a reading tour in Germany sponsored by the US Embassy.
Ebo Barton
Ebo Barton is a Transgender and genderqueer, Black and Filipino poet and artist. Currently residing in Seattle, Washington (by way of Los Angeles, California) getting paid to be super queer and wondering what the f*!# snow even is. As a representative of Seattle, they've been on 4 National Slam Teams and participated at 3 Individual World Poetry Slams. Their most notable poetry slam accolade is placing 5th in the world in 2016. Ebo curated and directed, How to Love THIS Queer Body of Color: An Unapology and wrote and directed the award-winning play, Rising Up. You may have seen Ebo's work in Adrienne: A Poetry Journal by Sibling Rivalry Press, Button Poetry, All Def Poetry and Write About Now. They and their work have been featured in Seattle Weekly, Seattle Gay News, Seattle Review of Books,Crosscut and on the Sound Link Light Rail. Their work touches on political issues from a personal point of view and often is birthed from the struggles of living in the identities that they are. Ebo believes in the power of language and art as a tool for revolution.
Nikkita Oliver
Nikkita Oliver is a Seattle-based creative, teaching artist, attorney, and organizer. Her writing has appeared in the South Seattle Emerald, Crosscut, the Establishment, and the Stranger. Oliver holds a J.D. and Masters of Education from the University of Washington. She is also the case manager for Creative Justice, an arts-based alternative to incarceration, and has worked for arts organizations such as Writers in the Schools and Arts Corp.
Nikkita is the recipient of the 2017 City Arts Artists of the Year, Gender Justice Power Award (2017), Seattle King County NAACP Leadership Award (2017), Community Legal Services Imagine Justice Visionary of the Year (2017), the University of Washington Womens Law Caucus Outstanding Achievement as a Young Lawyer Award (2017), the Seattle Office of Civil Rights Artist Human Rights Leader Award (2015), and the 2014 Seattle Poetry Slam Grand Champion. She has opened for Cornel West and Chuck D of Public Enemy and performed on The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert. She is also the first political candidate of the Seattle Peoples Party; running for Mayor of Seattle in 2017 where she finished in 3rd (of 21 of candidates).
