No Word in Guyanese for Me
"No Word in Guyanese for Me" tells the story of Hana, a gay, immigrant, Muslim young woman struggling for social and familial acceptance in post 9/11 America. Written to be performed by a single actor, the one act play stars Tamika Katon-Donegal and includes a movement Ensemble featuring LACHSA students Hye Won Rhee, Imani Preyor, Kassandra Carrington, Olivia A. Martinez-Prado and Reva Pau.  The performance will include a Second Act discussion with the audience.

"I am extremely excited and grateful to receive this grant, and look forward to presenting this timely and moving play," said Tanner. "Today, more than ever, issues relating to the treatment of women, immigrants, the LGBTQ community and religious minorities are crucial topics.  It is my hope that this play will move audiences to reflect on these issues and be inspired to take action to affect change."

TheatreWorkers Project is dedicated to providing opportunities for working people, the unemployed and youth to tell their stories through theatre by creating and presenting performance pieces about historical and current social and political issues, and transforming the classics, making them accessible to all ages.  For more information about our work, please visit our website.
