Ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison, M.A., teaches this popular series again. Visit West Sonoma County once a month, for a day of slide talks and discussion about plant and mushroom knowledge from around the globe, as well as the traditions of indigenous people of this Northern California region. Meet for four full days, one weekend day each month, March through June. We cover basic botany, the fungi, herbalism, deep history of food plants, TEK (Traditional Ecological Knowledge), nature mythology, visionary species, shamanic traditions, and ways to experience the world through an alive, nature-based worldview. Kat always includes colorful stories from her own fieldwork as well as tales shared by indigenous plant people.

Class size is 15-25 participants. Meet other great folks who love plants and learning. All ages of adults are welcome. We end most days with a local nature walk, to see/touch/smell the plant species that grow wild in our region. Share lunch and laughs with Kat and her guests. With four meetings over four months, we have much to muse about together.

VISIT the adjacent Botanical Dimensions Ethnobotany Library in Occidental, peruse the books about the topic of the day. Support BD Library or BD's other projects, and become a member.

Former participants agree, this is a mind-expanding course! Some people have taken it repeatedly, as there is always something new to discover. A very nice regional community has been growing from this course, which we have offered since 2014.

Presenter: Kathleen Harrison is an ethnobotanist and educator, who has been doing fieldwork among indigenous cultures, and amidst West Coast subcultures, since the 1970s. She specializes in studies of plants and fungi that are used in ritual, healing, art, and story. Kat is well-known for her work with traditional psychoactive species and their lore. She directs the Ethnobotany Library in Occidental, CA, as the hub of the non-profit organization, Botanical Dimensions, which she co-founded in 1985. She teaches classes there, and internationally, on a wide range of topics that pattern traditional and contemporary plant-human relations.  www.botanicaldimensions.org

Times/Dates: Class meetings are weekend days, 10am-4:00pm. Sunday, April 8; Saturday, May 12, Saturday, June 9, and Saturday, July 14. Note that the first class is on a Sunday and the rest are Saturdays. Sometimes, due to our marvelous afternoon plant walks, class ends later, but we always depart by 5pm.

We are not able to offer these classes individually, only as part of the series.

*Please note that our typical cancellation policy does not apply to this series. If you must miss a class in this series, you may attend one day of the Global Ethnobotany series the next time it is offered, usually the following year.
