"What's So Funny? Should It Be? The Social-Ethical Ramifications of Comedy," with Joshua Daniel
Kibbitznest
Chicago, IL
Share this event:

Joshua Daniel is a University of Chicago Divinity School graduate with a PhD in Theology. He has since taken his knowledge to various Chicago-area colleges and universities to teach religious studies and philosophy courses. The focus of his scholarly work is on moral formation, deformation and transformation.

A life without laughter is a life poorly lived. But laughter and the humor that incites it are not unambiguously good. This presentation will provide an overview of some recent theories of humor and comedy, with particular attention to their social and moral implications: Are there any moral obligations relating to laughing? Should there be?

For the purposes of discussion, please bring your favorite joke!
