Nox Atra Imperial Stout Release Party
Friday, January 26th, 6-9pm, featuring live music by Reckless Abandon with Dick Fiscus. Cost of admission is a donation to the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation Fund.
In Latin Nox Atra means Dark as Night an appropriate name for this opaque Imperial Stout. Rich aromas of dark fruit enhance this beers velvety, full-bodied texture. Bold and complex, Nox Atra layers a roasty mild bitterness with the sweet flavors of black cherries and plums to create a dark, intense and warming palate pleaser.
NOX ATRAS STORY The Black Ale Project is the brainchild of Dave Pappas a former active duty Marine & non-combat veteran of the Persian Gulf war turned craft beer blogger. His idea is deceptively simple. Buy a beer, help a veteran. Hes teamed up with breweries all over the region to raise money and awareness on behalf of US war veterans. There are two simple guidelines for participating in the Black Ale Project: 1) brew a dark beer 2) donate a portion of the proceeds to a veterans organization. We knew immediately that we wanted to participate and quickly decided to work with a local veterans organization reaching out to Cape Codders in need. With that goal in mind, we are pleased to partner with the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation Fund as the beneficiary of Cape Cod Beers Black Ale Project Nox Atra Imperial Stout. A portion of the proceeds from Nox Atra beer and T-shirts will be donated to the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation Fund.
NICKS STORY Nicholas G. Xiarhos was the first child of Yarmouth Police Department Deputy Chief of Police Steven G. Xiarhos & Lisa Xiarhos & the beloved big brother of his siblings Alexander, Elizabeth, and Ashlynne of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. He graduated from D-Y High School in 2006. His family, friends, teachers, & coaches remember him as a kind-hearted, selfless person who went out of his way to help others. He was affectionately nicknamed The Mayor of DY due to his outgoing personality and his ability to get along with everyone. In their senior year, his classmates presented him with the title Does Most for Others.
Nicholas had an enduring passion to serve his country and entered the Marine Corps Boot Camp just nine days after graduating high school. He earned the title of United States Marine on 9/22/06. In 3 short years, he earned the rank of corporal and eleven meritorious citations, ribbons & medals. He died on the battlefield in Helmund Province in Southern Afghanistan on July 23, 2009 while going to the rescue of his fellow Marines in combat. Nicholas chose to make a difference in the world. Two weeks prior to his death, his last words to his mother were, Dont worry about me MomIm living the dream. His short life was not without purpose, and he fulfilled his dream of serving his country.
The Xiarhos Family created a fund in honor of Nicholas. The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Fund is designed to support local military families in need of financial assistance, wounded warriors and their families. In addition to assisting these military families, the fund also provides support to over a dozen ongoing community programs.
