Dutchman
Dutchman, written by award winning playwright, poet, jazz critic, and activist Amiri Baraka (Leroi Jones), is a two-character confrontation on a New York subway between a middle class sharply dressed black intellectual (Clay) and a sensuous, flirtatious, a bit older, white woman.
Clay has deep insecurities about his ethnicity, history, and social status. Lula with her sweet red apple eats it seductively, as she challenges Clay to examine himself and the bitter racial stereotypes that he is in denial of such as the ignorant buffoon, the Uncle Tom, and the oversexed stud.
Dutchman high drama and tension on a New York subway, directed by TSU Theatre professor Thomas Meloncon. Shows dates: Feb. 8, 9, 10 & 15, 16, 17 @7:00 pm, and Feb. 11 & 18 @ 3:00 pm.
