Dawn, Quixote
The Building Stage is known for adapting and reinventing classic tales, like their 2011 award-winning Moby-Dick. Sticking with tradition for what is to be their final show, the company puts its playful spin on Miguel de Cervantes' Spanish Golden Age masterpiece. In this world-premiere production, the comic adventures of Don Quixote and his squire Sancho are transformed into a personal, poetic exploration of the cost of dreaming.
A cast of six men and women wearing fake beards, riding imaginary horses, and playing ukuleles delivers this delightful tale of misadventure. More than their backsides are bruised as Don Quixote and his squire Sancho set out into the unknown on an impossible quest. Not simply a retelling of this literary classic, Dawn, Quixote reflects on the story itself and questions the true nature of the self-proclaimed knight's character: comedic fool, paragon of Romantic idealism, or simply a man on the road to self-destruction?
