"Community-based Innovation: From Software to Sports Equipment" presented by Sonali K. Shah, Assistant Professor of Management, Michael G. Foster School of Business.

Sonali K. Shah is an assistant professor at the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr. Shah has extensively studied the motives, coordination structures, and strategies that support community-based innovation and product development in fields ranging from open source software to sports equipment to medical imaging devices. Her research also investigates the processes underlying the formation of new industries and product markets.
Professor Shah was awarded a 2008 Industry Studies Fellowship and the 2006 Best Paper Prize from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She has worked with technology clients at Morgan Stanley & Co. (New York, Technology Investment Banking Group) and at McKinsey & Co. (San Francisco). She volunteers with the American Red Cross, focusing on issues related to humanitarian law and refugee resettlement. She holds B.S.E degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Finance (Wharton School) from the University of Pennsylvania and received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
