Profs and Pints: The Radicalization of George Washington
As we celebrate Presidents' Day, it's easy to forget that our nation's first president, George Washington, once lived comfortably as a proud British subject. What led him to become the first member of America's elite to pledge his life for independence?
Hear Washington's transformation explained by Denver Brunsman, an associate professor of history at George Washington University who delivers engaging talks to visitors of the Mount Vernon estate. He'll trace the steps of our first president's radicalization, describing how a mix of financial ambition, political ideology, and intuition turned Washington into an agitator, a risk-taker, and a revolutionary who rejected the crown. (Tickets $10 in advance and $12 at the door.)
