Introduction to Backpacking Class
Join Inga Aksamit for a three-hour classroom class to go over backpacking basics in the first half and examine backpacking gear in the second half. The instructor will bring a fully packed backpack, then unpack it so you can see what's in it. No actual hiking is involved in this instructional session.
The goal of the class is to introduce participants to modern backpacking techniques and equipment. It's no longer necessary to carry heavy packs to enjoy a wilderness experience. If you have never backpacked before, or if it has been decades since you backpacked, this class is for you. Tips for all age groups will be provided, from backpacking with children to considerations for seniors.
The instructor is an experienced backpacking guide who has hiked the John Muir Trail and many other trails in the Sierra and beyond.
