Y.E.S. The Blind Leading the Blind 2018
The Blind Leading the Blind 2018

Each varietal has its own characteristic flavor(s). These flavors and aromas are altered by the process of turning grape juice into wine. Picking out the subtle flavors and aromas are a learned skill of association with known flavors and aromas. It takes a lot of effort to train the nose and palate to accomplish this. Most of us are not very good at this, so do not despair.
So, by practice and concentration we can train ourselves to develop our senses of smell and taste. Our brains had to be trained to discriminate sights and sounds. The first time we saw a Bluetick Coonhound dog and a Bassett Hound dog, could we remember what they looked like and how to tell them apart? Well they are both hound dogs, so what difference does it make? A Grenache and a Merlot are both red wines, so what difference does it make? If you are a dog lover or a wine lover, IT CAN make a difference.
We will serve three sets of three varietals, so bring three glasses per person. We will start off with three white wines. As you taste the wine, compare your thoughts with the tasting notes often found on the bottle. As you match the wine with the tasting notes, decide what varietal you are tasting. We will then repeat this with rose wines and then full-bodied red wines.
