"Only What We Need," The Songs of Peter Dizozza
Peter Dizozza's first album, "Pro-Choice on Mental Health" is a 7 song cycle with monologues and mini-play.  A crossover between alt-folk-rock and spoken word, its mix is the format for "Only What We Need," featuring the Essential Dizozza Songs.
Drawing from songs, composed between 1970 and the present, we offer this program to explore their content and their possible  place in the Great American Songbook.
At this venue we will also offer a parlor-piano vocal songbook, newly printed for the occasion, along with other CDs, DVDs, Books and Records.

Peter Dizozza is a piano based East Village singer/songwriter who is thrilled that the best Cabaret Venue in his neighborhood is hosting his first song revue.  He studied music at Queens College and songwriting at the Lehman Engel BMI Music Theater Workshop, but even before learning, he
was already writing songs.
Principally a composer, he also writes book, music and lyrics for shows with productions at La Mama, Theater for the New City and the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, like the musical mystery play Prepare to Meet Your Maker, The Last Dodo, The Golf Wars, A Question of Solitude (A James Bond Opera) and Float, produced at TNC in 2015 with a subsequent production in Bali, Indonesia.

The New Music Connoisseur describes him as a composer "with musical ideas in his soul" and The New Yorker lists him as "a straitlaced-looking lawyer who is ... one of a handful of antifolk piano players with roots in musical theatre, and his humor is at once whimsical and politically charged."
As for the New York Times, in a review for a show called
"155 Through the Roof," they called his music and songs "Charming decoration."  Time Out London described him as "Sondheim meets Burroughs."
TrakMARX called him Eccentric, eclectic and fiercely
individualistic.  A vinyl version of his album Songs of "The Golf Wars," was released in 2017.

In choosing the songs for this show, "like the lion, we've an eye on Only What We Need,"   That is a lyric in"Tiffany Symbol Search," a song from Kingdom Come, which takes a futuristic look at a return to Forest Hills where Peter was born.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
