Jim Scott & Stan Strickland at John Henry's Hammer Coffeehouse
John Henry's Hammer Coffeehouse welcomes friends and collaborators Jim Scott and Stan Strickland on February 16th.

Composer, guitarist and singer Jim Scott creates music that celebrates peace and ecology. Singer, saxophonist, flutist, actor and composer Stan Strickland has performed throughout the US and many other countries and with jazz greats such as Take Six, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Mann.

Jim may be best known to the Worcester area as the co-composer of the Winter Consort's celebrated Missa Gaia / Earth Mass that has been performed by several local choral groups in recent years. Multi-instrumentalist Stan has played the lead sax part in Jim's performances of the Missa Gaia and played on recordings of Jim's music. Jim's recorded 7 albums of original music, and compiled and arranged "The Earth and Spirit Songbook."

Stan's latest CD Love & Beauty features Stan's creative arrangements of great jazz classics and originals. Stan has also collaborated with choreographers Alvin Ailey, Jose Limon, and Bill T. Jones. As an actor, he's had leading roles in Boston Art Group's Harlem Renaissance, Notheastern University's Crossing John, and Maggie's Riff, produced by the Vineyard Playhouse. Stan is profiled/featured, in a new film entitled Black Man Up.

Doors open at 7 PM; shows start at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 / $12 WCUW Members/Students/Seniors, and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com, and at the door, if still available the night of the performance.
