Human Trafficking and the Justice System: Emerging Issues and Taking Action
Human trafficking law and policy experts will explore a wide range of topics and focus on how we, as a community, can engage more fully to see just and fair outcomes in trafficking cases. They will answer the question: What can we all do to bring a full cup of justice to trafficking survivors and ensure that all in the justice system are informed and aware of the prevalence of human trafficking and its impacts on clients and cases. The program will feature a special introduction by Dean Erin OHara OConnor of the FSU College Law, and the following presentations:

- Sex Trafficking and Teens  In this panel discussion, experts will delve into the issues of sex trafficking in our area, teen victims vulnerabilities and needs including those of LGBTQ survivors, trends, and what our social services and justice system responses should do to be more effective.
- Labor Trafficking in Florida and in the Big Bend  Labor trafficking expert and professor Terry Coonan will give his perspectives on labor trafficking cases in the Big Bend and throughout Florida, highlighting laws, trends, policies, and how the justice system should most effectively respond.
- Justice System Roundtable  A wide-ranging panel discussion of justice system officials and advocates will focus on the representation of trafficking victims, whether by the state, the defense or the private bar, and survivors needs and roles in both the criminal and civil justice systems. Panelists will address if and how attorneys can best seek justice in human trafficking cases.
