I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra
"I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra" explores compositions that are funny, sincere, strange, and fleshy. The work represents, respects, and rejects female archetypes. It distorts and experiments with rituals and pop culture. There is deep darkness and bright, shimmering light.
Choreographed and performed by Sada Naegelin and Leah Wilmoth. Additional dancers Alanna Marguritte and Fern Wiley, with pianist Charlie Copeland.
Sada Naegelin is originally from Santa Fe, NM and has performed in Portland since 2008 with the likes of Lu Yim, Taylor Eggan, and Jin Camou. This is Sada's second collaboration with Leah Wilmoth nearly seven years after their work with Taylor Eggan on Tinnitus (2010). After Tinnitus, Sada spent a short stint in Austin, TX, where she danced with Ellen Bartel and other local choreographers. Most recently Sada created and performed the duet TRACES with local Portland dancer, Mark Koenigsberg.
Leah Wilmoth is a dance artist and who grew up in rural Michigan. She moved to Portland in 2008 and has since performed with Lu Yim, Taylor Eggan, Kelly Rauer, Claire Barrera, Danielle Ross, Liz Mehl and others. "I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra" was originally performed in the summer of 2017 during an evening of performance for Rantom Scoot, a group show that included Portland icons, Linda Austin and Gregg Bielemeier, and NYC performer, Bob Eisen.
