Proper Education
"This is why we must teach our young black nation
Proper Education, Proper Education" -Grand Puba of Brand Nubian

"Proper Education" is a pay-what-you-can community dinner presented by The People's Kitchen and benefitting the 4th Annual Dr. Carter G. Woodson Black History Bowl. This 6 course dinner will feature Samba Funk, story telling, and an exploration of the history of the African diaspora through food, art and political education. This is a celebration of peoples history.

Proceeds of this dinner will benefit The Carter G. Woodson Black History Bowl, an annual jeopardy style game where K-12 youth teams compete on their knowledge of African diaspora history. They have partnered with African American Male Achievement Initiative in OUSD to provide this celebrated event which is a positive and uplifting experience for our youth and community. The Black History Bowl focuses on providing and supporting proper, culturally appropriate and empowering experience for all youth.

Please join us as we celebrate the deep food traditions that nourish our bodies and souls, heal the Earth, and tell our stories of migration, resistance, and movement.

About People's Kitchen-

The People's Kitchen is a community restaurant that couples political education and movement building with a high-end, local, organic meal that is lovingly prepared by community chefs. Each monthly People's Kitchen raises donations for local grassroots political projects and celebrates the foods of different cultures and communities in Oakland. The goal of The People's Kitchen is not only to fill our stomachs but to also nourish our souls, feed our minds, and fuel a movement.

Januarys People's Kitchen will benefit the 4th Annual Dr. Carter G. Woodson Black History bowl. www.kulturefreedom.com. This is a fundraiser and we Invite you to pay what you can to support this community program.
