Ten
For the culminating production of Esoteric Dance Projects seventh season, the company presents Ten featuring three world-premieres by choreographer spouses Brenna Pierson-Tucker and Christopher Tucker. The project is fittingly titled, as it coincides with EDPs tenth self-produced performance series. This two-night experience investigates three works uniquely personal to the creators, but all firmly tied to Esoteric Dance Projects core mission of preserving classical and practiced technique. The performance explores the intricate and complex patterns of human interaction through the lens of disparate personalities, the fluctuations of a sixteen-year-relationship and the challenges of injury, recovery and perseverance.

What Is Between Us welcomes the audience into a world of three distinct personalities and their interactions which continually fluctuate between support, combativeness and loyalty. The work examines how the three cohabitate and how small connections effect the others. The piece begs the question: in a diverse world is there a correct and incorrect experience? These three individual personalities move and explore time and space singly, in pairs and as a triad with each producing its own story and outcome. Every narrative is enhanced with a diverse score that both inspires griping emotions yet powerful favoritism by the viewers.

2=1+1=Two is the fourth original duet created by the Co-Artistic Directors. The work delves into two contemplations. One, an intimate exploration into the couples sixteen-years together and two, how this journey mirrors the couples sleeping pattern. Growth occurs both as one and as two. The piece begins with the couple exploring flowing movement on the floor shifting in and out of partnering vignettes and restful pauses. This progresses into separate solos that explore each individuals growth before coming back together, stronger to conclude.

In Bent and Broken, Into a Better Shape, Brenna Pierson-Tucker examines the multiple injuries that have been her constant companion throughout her dancing and choreographic career. Through movement the audience attains a window into the emotional journey of accomplishment, discouragement, pain and resilience. A whirling and complicated orchestrated score paired with the discomforting and sentencing click, click of a typewriter create the landscape for the work as five dancers symbolize the experience of various injuries and their interplay with one another. The lone male performer represents the beginning (subject zero) and often bares the weight of the other injuries throughout the piece enhancing the viewers understanding that each injury is not a separate occurrence, rather one creates another and spirals onward.
